Good luck to these guys and anyone in a startup or looking for a job should read about this one and they are just around the corner from me:
Every so often I come across some entrepreneur who reminds me why it is so much fun covering this beat. That happened Tuesday when I sat down with the energetic founders of Eggsprout, a Bellevue startup that is trying to transform the way people find jobs online.
It wasn’t so much the business. After all, enough people have attempted to revolutionize the job search category over the years(Jobster, anyone?) What caught my attention was the passion and drive exhibited by Brian Ma and Hsu Ken Ooi — the former University of Washington whizzes — that are leading Eggsprout.
They’re young (all five employees are under the age of 25); smart (Ma graduated early from the UW with a dual degree in computer science and electrical engineering); thrifty (the Bellevue basement where they work has limited heat); and hungry (They are foregoing salaries, surviving on chicken nuggets.)
Furthermore, the Eggsprout team — which is launching their service today after months of development and less than $10,000 in startup costs — are not letting something like the worst economic recession in years stand in their way.

I’m not the biggest fan of Star Wars.
…But I still found this mildly entertaining.
We have one at the office, but still I
have yet to hear anybody give a command
other than, “R2, do you remember?”

I’m really liking what Flickr/Yahoo are doing with the digital assets you already have on there. The direct blog posting from an image, the embed video code…just smart and very useful.
BTW- this is just a silly quick video of things I have worked on over the years as a test file.

This campaign could get really funny if they play this out. Imagine all the bad things people do that could be highlighted in a campaign like this.
If you got to the web site you can enter the "What would you do for a Klondike Bar? Contest" you could win $100,000. Typical web video contest, send in your vid etc. Based on the submitted videos, enter, you might win.

This is a really interesting video from BBC America. They are focused on the Barack Obama web movement.
The year that the Internet changed American politics is a big statement but I think it is valid.
It’s a long clip but worth watching.

I can understand why, she is a beauty but so many others in the games are also. Not many of the Olympic Javelin contestants have personal calendars, maybe that has something to do with it.
Here is a segment from the Yahoo story:
Leryn Franco is just your run-of-the-mill javelin thrower/pageant queen/model with her own calendar. But during the Beijing Olympics the 26-year old Paraguayan became so much more to the American people; she became our javelin thrower/pageant queen/model with her own calendar.
Ms. Franco became the object of our attention after she was noticed by NBC cameras during the Parade of Nations at the Olympic Opening Ceremony. Fourth-Place Medal’s fledgling Investigative Unit discovered her identity eight magical days ago and since then our schoolboy crush blossomed into unrequited love.

UPDATE:
“Bigfoot” fails DNA test
One of the two samples of DNA said to prove the existence of the Bigfoot came from a human and the other was 96 percent from an opossum, according to Curt Nelson, a scientist at the University of Minnesota who performed the DNA analysis.
Bigfoot creatures are said to live in the forests of the U.S. Pacific Northwest. An opossum is a marsupial about the size of a house cat.
Results of the DNA tests were revealed in an e-mail from Nelson and distributed at the Palo Alto, California, news conference held by Tom Biscardi, host of a weekly online radio show about the Bigfoot.
The news finally made it’s way into Yahoo Buzz. Here is a segment of what they reported about:
Researchers presented evidence today of a large, shaggy (and dead) creature they claim is Bigfoot. Two of the men say they found the mysterious beast in the north Georgia woods and stashed it in a freezer. Though the bold duo had claimed they would present DNA evidence, photographs, and video to prove they did indeed nab the big guy, early reports say the hunters “didn’t reveal much.”
Skepticism aside, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen a story ignite on the Web like this one. Searches for “latest bigfoot sightings” rose more than 6,000% over the last two days alone. Interest in “bigfoot” soared 1,630%, landing the query at the top of our fastest movers. Searchers with a more suspicious bend propelled queries for “real bigfoot pictures” (+2,589%) and “real bigfoot” (+2,853%) skyward. And that’s just the beginning.
I’m still hoping for a Bigfoot body but I really don’t think it’s gonna happen. If this is a hoax, it will backfire on these guys. It’s not a smart move to get everyone excited and let them down over a prolonged period of time.

Old news but new news - What happens if you post a fake sex listing on craigslist? Jason Fortuny has the answer and he published it all. (this is a video from a couple nights ago on local news)
I would imagine so.
He posted emails, photos and what type of sex the people are looking for.
For all those dipshits out there (including a MSFT employee that exposed himself in his cube as a response and got fired for it) don’t engage with this type of behavior online, everything is tracked and the information you send is never kept at or with the recipient.
A lawyer once said, “don’t send or publish anything you wouldn’t show your wife, family, kids”…that’s sound advice.

This is worth watching and reading the story on MSN.
The video is over 39 years old.

It’s about time that Flickr added this feature.
It works pretty well and the video conversion to Flash is solid (unless you are trying to watch the video in IE7 - see previous post).
Flickr is also doing some other interesting things of late, geotag for video and photos and just added analytics.
BTW- the video is just a quick video of stuff I have worked on over the years. I wanted to try a video of some size and audio.
