Geek Porn - Cisco Airnet 1500 Mesh Network
by: Stuart

Pure, unadulterated geek porn in this video clip. Almost 6 minutes of tech-talk from an Asian woman in a silk blouse.

Damn Cisco knows how to sell a product. With all the dirty thoughts aside, this is a kick ass product.

Mesh networks have been talked about and been in use for years. The first ones I remember hearing about started in rural areas since connection points are so hard.

Imagine the possibilities of this rugged device out in remote areas for people and machine connections.

Very cool. Thanks again to M2MHQ.com for the link.

WiMAX may get left behind
by: Alex

The WiMAX Forum has finally certified the first four WiMAX devices, meanwhile the rest of the world has gone ahead without it.  While the IEEE has been dragging it’s feet, companies like Motorola have developed their own high-speed wireless mesh network equipment, and mobile providers are going with EVDO.  Motorola and Earthlink are teaming up to deploy mesh networks in five major cities to provide high-speed internet access, especially to low-income families and travellers.  WiMAX may arrive just in time to find it’s niche filled by something else.

DATARADIO, High Quality 900 MHz Ethernet Radio
by: Stuart

The HiPR-900 is a high speed, license-free ISM band (902-928 MHz) industrial data radio designed to transmit secure data over Ethernet and/or serial connections to an IP based network.  DATARADIO, claims their patent-pending Parallel Decode technology combines Spatial Diversity and Smart Combining to give the HiPR-900 “increased sensitivity plus immunity to multi-path producing a more reliable radio link.” I was sent a video of the HiPR-900 running below, so it must be real.

The radio management is through an embedded web server that provides browser access to general information and configuration of network parameters. The HiPR-900 can be user programmed in both bridge and router modes.

Wireless Internet Coverage
by: Stuart

I’m not sure how accurate this site is but it does give you some maps (and everyone loves maps) of service coverage and some very specific posts on EvDO/HSDPA. They also provide a link to EvDO-Coverage site.

Sprint WiMax
by: Stuart

This is a step in the right direction.

Sprint will be puttering in its labs with a mobile version of the experimental wireless technology that distributes broadband Internet access over a range of several miles. If the technology passes muster, Sprint says, a small-scale trial in a major urban area will be next.

Start Looking for the XM Sticker on Electronics
by: Stuart

XM Sees Satellite Radio Built Into Myriad Gadgets : This makes complete sense from a consumer standpoint. I buy a data feed…(music, video, whatever) and it can play or show on anything that has XM on it, wherever I take the device.

WiMax Hotspots
by: Stuart

Companies like Intel Corp., Alcatel, Lucent Technologies and Alvarion plan to sell WiMax products. Early versions that deliver the Internet to fixed locations such as homes are expected to go on sale next year.

Here is the good news for Sprint: Sprint is likely to be the biggest U.S. WiMax provider as it will own airwaves suitable for the technology in 80 of the top 100 U.S. markets after it buys Nextel Communications Inc. this year.

Holy clock speed Batman
by: holloweyes

There have been reports and posts before about the new IBM/Toshiba cell processor but more info was released today.  A couple of things stand out:

- It has EIGHT cores

- It is platform independent

- It runs at 4GHz

- Best of all, it was not released in a super computer at a university; it is making its debut in a home gaming station. Sweet.
