When I say horrified I’m talking 600lb catfish, a 7ft Pike and this “small” Alligator Gar. The current world record alligator gar weighed 279 pounds and was caught in the Rio Grande River in 1951.
I have caught Gar before, small ones at the Clinton Lake spillway in Lawrence, KS. I know how scary it was to pull a little guy out of the water, having it thrash around trying to bite me. An older gent yelled, “smack it on the head with a rock…they evil” as I pulled it out of the water. It took a couple whacks.
I have never seen an Alligator Gar and this video really made me not want to go swimming in Texas rivers and made my little Gar seem really wimpy.
